Artist's Comments

It is the end of Autumn and the sharp smell of distant winter snow is in the air. All is calm and quiet. The bustle of life is gone and there is only acceptance and waiting. The world is at it's most austere; colours faded out but clear, as though all has been made clean and crystal. And yet there is a small flame that still resists the inevitability of the snow.

Thank you! I'm glad you like it, as this piece is often quite overlooked. They are all my little creations, my children in a way, and so I really appreciate that you notice this one when many don't.

Your art is so amazing. I have no idea what to even say about it but I'm gonna give it a shot because it deserves more than me typing '*is speechless*. And I would absolutely love to just go through your entire gallery one by one and read all the descriptions and study the works but unfortunately that would take a large amount of time, it's late, and I have some major-league packing to do before I leave for a week and reside computorlessly at a cabin. I'm hoping I'll remember to return here and study this stuff more.
I'd like to study it more because it seems like each work you have posted makes a point. It's amazingly beautiful but it's also very deep and meaningful and from what your works have made me think about so far I don't want to miss out on anything you have to say. (I may seem like I'm worshipping you or something, which is wierd and I'm sorry, but I'm just totally blown away.)
This piece in particular caught my eye. 'Last Fire' reminds me of the Seven Fires, and when I read the description, the first thing that popped into my head was that it was all a huge metaphor. "The world is at its most austere". Very true about the season you've depicted but one could also say very true about current times. I understand that we are currently in the time of the Seventh Fire.
Before I go any further- I've taken a class called lake Superior Chippewa/Ojibwe, and also a religion course that covered a bit of the Ojibwe religion. That being said my memory is terrible and I don't pretend to know what I'm talking about. However, everything I learned about the Ojibwe way of thinking and understanding totally impressed me and I really had to agree with a lot of the ways the people seem to understand things.
So - That is the first thing that I thought of. The last fire. I'd be very curious to know if anything about that was going through your head when you did this. I also wonder what the wolf symbolizes. I recall learning something about the relationship between man and wolf and though I kind of remember what it was about I can't begin to try and explain it with words... but it may have connected into the seven Fire thing.
And the style is just amazing... I'll rant more about the style in another piece because the comment box doesn't seem to like that I'm typing so much...
